Reiki for Christians

People have asked me about my religious beliefs and whether or not reiki conflicts with my religion.  I am a practicing Christian, so this question has come up for me.  Reiki has helped me to better understand my faith and has brought me closer to God.   Reiki is spiritual in nature, but not a religion.  It is universal and will enhance, for the highest good, a person's spirituality in all religious practices.  The technique is practiced by people of all religious persuasions as well as those with no religious convictions.

The reiki technique helps a person connect to our higher life energy.  We all define this "Higher Power" in different ways and all experience and connect to this energy differently as well.  Some people use ways such as meditation, prayer, or time spent in nature to connect to this higher spiritual energy that is a part of all of creation.  For me, reiki has brought the strongest and most healing connection and it is one that I can easily share with others.

Reiki is a laying on of hands technique similar to what Jesus practiced.  There are many passages in the bible that direct us to develop and practice the "Gifts of the Spirit".  In 1 Corinthians 12:4-12, Paul speaks of the gifts to include speaking wisdom and knowledge and the power to heal.  Paul also explains that in the church we all have different roles as teachers, apostles, prophets, those who perform miracles, those who heal, those who direct others, and those who speak in strange tongues (1 Corinthians 12:28-31).

One of my favorite bible passages is John 14:12 (NIV) where Jesus tells us, "I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing.  He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father."  This empowering message not only provides a source of guidance to our healing possibilities, but also provides direction for those who feel spiritually called to a healing mission.

I went into nursing because I felt this calling.  And like many healthcare professionals, or any service orientated job (parenting is high on the list), I experienced burnout.  This was because I was giving away my own energy to people.  Through prayer and connecting with nature, I would recharge, but only to quickly deplete at my next shift at work or even a day at home with my children.  Reiki has been a way for me to connect directly to God, and through intention and touch, I can share this Divine healing energy with others at any given moment.  No longer am I giving away my own energy.  And as the energy moves through me, I am deeply blessed and recharged by it as well.

As a Christian, I have found reiki to be a great enhancement to my religious practices.  Reiki is a way that I can truly share God's love, light, and blessings with all in a way I believe Jesus intended me to.  If you would like more information or have further questions, please visit the website, "Reiki for Christians" listed below.  Also please view the document drafted by a Milwaukee Caltholic Reiki Masters group organized by Jeff Montoya.
